The holiday season is upon us, which means it’s time to start shopping for that perfect gift.
I’m willing to bet that there are certain people on your list who leave you at a loss every year. What exactly does a 6 year old boy want? Or a 12 year old girl? How can you find something for the in-laws who already have everything? What gift will make great-aunt Gertrude squeal with glee? What should you bring to the White Elephant gift exchange?
This article is the first in a series showing you the weird, wacky and wonderful gifts that are available this holiday season.
This one focuses on kids, whether they are your own, your relatives, or just some random child you decided to bestow a gift upon. It doesn’t matter how young or old the child is or if they are a boy or a girl; there is guaranteed to be something on this list that they will love.
Wacky gifts for every kid
What child doesn’t want a big bag of poo for Christmas? Trust me on this, you can buy them expensive electronics, clothing and toys, but the bag of poo will be the gift they talk about for years to come.
Nieces and nephews will think you are the absolute coolest aunt or uncle ever when you gift them with poo. Their parents might give you the disapproving side eye, but the gift isn’t for them so who cares?
The best part . . . this is poo you can eat! It’s actually just brown cotton candy, but you know the kids will have a ball eating it and trying to gross each other out.
How about a set of tiny hands? Kids will have fun for hours smacking each other and stroking their own face.
My 11 year old walked by while I was looking at these and said, “Oh my gosh! What is that? Those are so cool!” He then declared that the tiny hands were going on his Christmas wish list.
Forget the kids, think about how much fun these would be for grown-ups too.
Kids of every age love the Squawking Rubber Chicken. This is an absolutely perfect gift if you don’t particularly care for the child’s parents.
The noise the chicken makes is funny at first, then cute and within five minutes, you want to strangle the chicken and throw it out the window. Like I said, perfect gift for kids who think it is hilarious to drive their parents insane.
Crafty gifts for every kid
Little girls of all ages love to make their own jewelry. This bracelet making kit will keep them occupied for at least thirty minutes and is relatively non-messy, unlike some other crafty gifts.
My daughter used to make bracelets for everyone in the family, our neighbors, the family pets and all her friends at school. It’s quiet and it kept her busy, which makes it the perfect gift in my opinion.
If you don’t mind a little mess, check out these Paint Your Own Stepping Stones. It’s a set of three that you can give to one child or split up and gift to different children. Painting is always fun and when they are done, the kids can display their artwork in the backyard.
Educational gifts for every kid
For the computer crazy kid on your list, here is a coding kit. I’m tech illiterate, so this looks like torture to me, but since kids are smarter than me at techy challenges, I can see how this would be fun. Plus, I love when everything is bundled together so I can buy one gift and be done.
Finally, think about adding this Gravity Maze Marble Run Game to your shopping list. It helps kids think of creative solutions and was given a Toy of the Year Award, which I’m assuming came from people who know what they are talking about and not some rubber chicken loving mom like me.
